Katrina Nannestad grew up in central-western New South Wales, Australia. After studying arts and education at the University of New England in Armidale, she worked as a primary school teacher. Her first teaching job was at a tiny two-teacher school in the bush.

Katrina now lives near Bendigo, Victoria, with her husband and two sons. Her first book, 'Bungaloo Creek,' was published by ABC Books in 2001 and received popular acclaim, but her most successful publications thus far have been her 'Red Dirt Diaries' series, featuring a rough-and-tumble young farmgirl named Blue Weston.

Author's Comment: I’m really private when I’m writing...It’s really only my own two children, who are now 15 and 17, who I try it out on, and I certainly have put them into characters – teenage boys are hilarious. Then, when I go into schools to talk to groups, I find that just amazing...Kids are so enthusiastic, and they can say things that are so beautiful.
